BIOGRAPHY

Roberto López was born in Villena, Alicante, in 1974. He is a multidisciplinary artist who uses different art mediums depending on the projects.

He studied fine arts and industrial-graphic design at the Escola d'Art i Superior de Disseny d'Alcoi and sound art and music composition at the Postgraduate Course in Composition ECCA (Escuela de Composición y Creación Artística) in Alcoi. From 2000 to 2002 he also was awarded a scholarship by the INJUVE (Instituto de la Juventud) expanding his studies in Málaga and Madrid.

Roberto López´s art focuses mainly on establishing relationships between the objectivity of science and the expressive and communicative processes of the subjectivity of art, connecting concepts and ideas to reflect on our social and cultural environment. He also has special interest in concepts such as perception, time and memory, intuitive versus logic, or the possibilities of visual and sound communication to show the contradictions or problems of established codes.

Among the prizes he has received are the one awarded by La Fura dels Baus with the FMOL project (Faust Music On Line) for his shows FAUST v.3.0 (1998) and Don Quijote in Barcelona (2000), the first prize consecutively in 2001 and 2002 at the Creation´s Meeting INJUVE (Instituto de la Juventud), the one granted by Fundación Autor - CDMC (Centro para la Difusión de la Música Contemporánea) in 2007 or the award received by the Instituto Alicantino de Cultura Juan Gil-Albert at the International Competition Contemporary Art Encounters - EAC 2016.

Roberto Lopez's work has been shown at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Casa de Velázquez or Auditorio Nacional in Madrid, Gran Teatre del Liceu or L´Auditori in Barcelona, Institut Valencia d'Art Modern and Museo Centro del Carmen in Valencia, Centro de Arte Contemporáneo DA2 in Salamanca, Musée d'Art Contemporain in Bordeaux or Proshansky Auditorium in New York.
